If you are receiving the “Unable to initialize network” error when launching the Homebrew Browser application from the Homebrew Channel, press the Home key to return to the Homebrew Channel, wait for the globe icon in the lower-right corner of the screen to stop blinking and remain solid, and launch the Homebrew Browser again.

The globe icon in the Homebrew Channel indicates the network connection status. If the icon is blinking, the Wii is still trying to establish a network connection. If the icon is lit and solid, the Wii has established a network connection.

If the globe icon continues blinking after 30 seconds or if it is grayed out, check your Wii’s network connection settings.

The globe is lit up, so that means that I’m connected, right? Because I still get the unable to initialise network error

It may take a few tries for the Homebrew Browser to connect to the Internet, even after the Homebrew Channel establishes a network connection. I’d recommended rebooting your wireless router and stopping any downloads or uploads (e.g. BitTorrent) before trying again.

I had problems with the browser, the connection was up but it was trying indefinitely and unsuccessfully to connect. I’ve updated to the last version of the browser and it started working. Try this if the connection seems solid, you have an older version and nothing happens after initializing the network. Good luck!

I posted the solution for the “Unable to initialize network” error before the arrival of Wii USB loaders, so, unfortunately, I can’t be of much help. I’d recommend searching for the exact error message you receive using Google. There are a number of great web sites dedicated to Wii homebrew and you’ll likely find answers there.

If I’m understanding your question correctly, you’re asking if it matters whether the connection is wired (through a USB LAN adapter) or wireless.

I believe either type of connection will work, though I’ve never used a Wii LAN adapter, so I can’t say with certainty.

I don’t think I’ll be able to be much help as I’m not familiar with a Homebrew List file. You might try a Google search or browse the WiiBrew web site.

Reading up on the WiiBrew site would probably yield an answer, but I can take a shot at helping. Are you using a specific application (like Homebrew Browser) when you receive the error? Is there any specific error code?

I’d recommend waiting 10-15 seconds for the icon to stop flashing before taking any action. If that doesn’t help, I can only recommend visiting WiiBrew and searching for an answer.
